StocklerReferral — Privacy Policy

StocklerReferral ("the app") is a Shopify app that identifies which orders in your store originated from AI shopping assistants (such as ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Copilot, or Claude) — traffic that standard analytics tools typically report as generic "Direct" or "Referral" visits. This policy explains what data the app collects, why, and how it's handled.

What we collect

The app collects the following, and nothing beyond it:

• Referrer URL and landing page — the web address a shopper arrived from, and the page they landed on, captured via a Shopify Web Pixel at the moment of their first visit.
• An anonymous session identifier (client ID) — generated by Shopify's pixel platform, used only to connect a storefront visit to the order it may later produce. Not linked to any personal account or identity.
• Order-level data — order ID, order name, total price, and creation date, retrieved via Shopify's Admin API once an order is placed, so it can be matched to the visit that produced it.

What we do not collect

The app does not access or store customer names, email addresses, phone numbers, shipping addresses, payment details, or any other personally identifiable information. It has no need for this data and does not request it.

Why we collect it

This data exists solely to power the app's core function: showing you, the merchant, which of your orders were referred by an AI assistant, so you can understand a traffic source your existing analytics can't see. It is used for no other purpose.

Consent

The Web Pixel that captures referrer and landing-page data operates within Shopify's built-in customer privacy framework. In regions requiring opt-in consent, the pixel only activates for shoppers who have consented to analytics tracking; in regions using an opt-out model, it's subject to the shopper's cookie preferences as configured in your store. Orders from shoppers who don't consent, or whose visit couldn't be tracked for any other reason, are still recorded — but without referrer data attached, and are shown in the app's dashboard as unmatched rather than guessed at.

Data retention

Session-level tracking data (referrer, landing page, session ID) is retained only long enough to match against an order — typically minutes, and no longer than 30 days for sessions that never convert. Matched order-attribution records are retained for as long as the app remains installed on your store, so historical reporting stays available to you.

Data sharing

We do not sell, rent, or share any data collected by this app with third parties. Data is used exclusively to power the app's dashboard within your own Shopify admin.

Data storage and security

Data is stored on infrastructure operated by Fly.io, encrypted at rest, with all connections to and from the app secured via HTTPS.

Uninstalling the app

If you uninstall StocklerReferral, Shopify notifies us automatically and your store's data is scheduled for deletion in line with Shopify's standard app-uninstall data handling requirements.
